Every imagined city still needs an address. This sheet draws two of them at full width in graphite and coloured pencil, thirty-four inches across, so the eye has to travel before it can hold them both. The Baxter Building rises at the left, lettered by hand with 260 Baxter Building Plaza, and the Excelsior lifts off its launcher at the right. The width was the difficulty. At that format a single vanishing point has to earn the whole journey, and there is nowhere to hide a guess. It belongs to The Fantastic Four: First Dreams, the project where I keep building the New York my childhood imagined.
