The head is a garden that keeps building itself. I opened the top of my own skull in gouache and filled it with coloured blocks, the interlocking kind, then set a small green umbrella above them so the weather could not get in. A tree grows at the left shoulder. The shirt is scattered with flowers. It is a sketchbook page, and it is also the most accurate self-portrait I have made, because the inside of my thinking really does look like construction under a cloudy sky.
