Description

A year is a handover. The Vietnamese title is Thời Khắc Chuyển Giao, and the cover shows the tiger of 2022 face to face with the cat of 2023, both in hot magenta on navy, gold chains hanging between them. Inside, six spreads and six different cats. One wears a lion-dance headdress. One looms over a neon city and tells you to face your fear. One has wings and a green gem. One waits behind red curtains with a fish in its mouth. One is Doraemon, asking in Japanese whether he does not also count as a cat. The last sits in a Santa hat at a frosted window. Every grid carries the lunar date under the solar one, because both calendars are running the whole time. This was my first print job, red envelope included. Tết is the one week of the year when everybody agrees to start over. I wanted an object you could hold while it happened.
